October 30, 2020 Update 2

Election Resources

Dear Students,

With voting underway nationally and election day next week, I want to be sure you have current information about college programming, our COVID-updated freedom of expression policies, and health and safety resources available to you.

As always, the Dartmouth community remains committed to supporting freedom of expression and dissent. Given the pandemic context this fall, we have updated our Freedom of Expression and Dissent guidelines to incorporate current COVID-19 health and safety requirements.

In addition, please be sure to review tips to engage safely in the time of COVID-19, at

If you have questions about freedom of expression and dissent, please contact student.life@dartmouth.edu.

No matter where you may be or how you choose to vote, we know that you may be affected by the combination of the pandemic conditions and upcoming election results as we approach the end of fall term. All of our campus support resources continue to be available to you, and we've added some new offerings.

*Election Self-Care: The Student Wellness Center has put together an election self-care guide with useful tips, meditations, yoga offerings, wellness check-ins and other virtual wellbeing supports, at https://students.dartmouth.edu/wellness-center/wellness-mindfulness/covid-19-wellbeing-tips/election-self-care

*Counseling Center Election Drop-In Zoom Discussions: The Counseling Center is offering a safe space to support students through discussion during election week. See: https://students.dartmouth.edu/health-service/counseling/election-drop-zoom-discussion

*Virtual/Creative Protest: Learn about different/creative ways to engage in freedom of expression and dissent activities that are not in-person. See: https://students.dartmouth.edu/wellness-center/wellness-mindfulness/covid-19-wellbeing-tips/election-self-care/responding-election

Please don't hesitate to let us know if you need help, and please continue to offer support to one another throughout the rest of the term.

Finally, as President Hanlon reminded all of us earlier today, "Local officials here in Hanover and in cities and towns throughout the country work hard to preserve the integrity of our presidential, congressional, and state and local elections, and it is incumbent upon all of us to do our part and participate in the electoral process. So please, if you haven't done so already, cast your votes -- either by absentee ballot or at the polls – for the candidates that you believe best represent the policies and values that are in the best interest of our country. For those of you living on campus this term, it is still possible to register to vote.
