August 14, 2020 Update 2

Community Expectations Link

Dear Students,

The Community Expectations Agreement is now available. We are also using the link to gather additional information we need to plan for our September testing process. Please see below.

FALL TESTING

We are committed to including all students living on campus and all students living locally in our preventative testing and health protocols - whether or not you are enrolled in classes. Those of you who are in the area will be included in our on-campus Health Service testing process (at the College's  expense), just as students living on campus will be. Health Service staff will support you if you are identified as someone who may have had contact with a person who tests positive, or if you contract the virus yourself. In consultation with local, regional and national epidemiological experts, this is one of the best ways we can all work together to reduce risk and respond quickly and supportively if transmission does occur in our community.

To fulfill that commitment, we need to know if you are now or are planning to live locally this fall. Accordingly, you will see the question on the form that asks you whether you are or will be living locally, and if so, to let us know which of ten towns you're in (or other if you are further afield in the area). We are not asking for street addresses. We simply need to know if you're local so that we can schedule you in for preventative testing.

THE LOGISTICS

When you go to this link https://dartmouth.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3dWXG2q85NCdHhj, you will be asked to authenticate with your Dartmouth credentials. When you arrive at the form itself, you will be asked whether you are or will be living locally off-campus this fall. If you are, it will ask you to identify the town in which you'll be living (Enfield, Hanover, Lyme, Lebanon, West Lebanon on the NH side; Hartford, Norwich, Quechee, Wilder, White River Junction on the VT side; or "other" if you will be local but further out).

The remaining pages on the form are the Community Expectations Agreement, as I explained in my message earlier this afternoon. You will need to review, acknowledge and submit it by August 24th.

Finally, as I've said before, we know this is a lot. We are doing everything we can to provide opportunities for you to be here under these conditions, and to enable you to make informed decisions about what's best for you. Later next week, you'll all receive the link to a new fall landing page, where we will have done our best to share the latest information about how things are going to work, what it will be like to be here, and all the ways we will support you in engaging with your faculty, with staff, and with each other this fall - whether you are enrolled remotely or locally. We will keep updating as we go,  and do our best - with your help - to make your experience this year the best it can be under the circumstances.

In the meantime, and no matter your decision as to your return to campus, I continue to hope that you and those closest to you are happy and well.

All best,

Dean Lively
