COVID-19: Campus Update

Dear Undergraduate Students,

Thank you for your patience. I understand that this situation is stressful and unsettling, but please know that we are sharing information and resources with you as soon as they are available.

For those of you who are preparing to leave: It is critical that you leave as soon as possible after your last exam. The Provost's message last night set a deadline of Monday, March 16th.

Some of you wrote asking what to pack as you depart. The answer is take what you can with you. Circumstances may change. As Provost Helble's message tonight reiterated, the College is continuing to assess the situation and will be determining the best way to provide educational continuity.

For those of you who contacted the Dean of the College account about interim housing or other assistance:

1) If you've already applied for interim housing, you will hear from the interim care team by mid-day tomorrow.

2) If you haven't yet applied for interim housing, but need financial or other help, the interim care team will be using the interim housing application form as the way to flag that you need assistance. Please go to the interim housing application at this link (https://students.dartmouth.edu/residential-life/undergraduate-housing/other-housing-options/interim-housing) and fill out the form before 7 am tomorrow morning. This will put you in the interim care pipeline. You will receive a response tomorrow afternoon about how we can help.

To our international students, please know that we are very aware of the complex challenges you face. All of the members of the interim care team, which includes OPAL and OVIS staff, recognize your circumstances. They will provide as many answers as possible - though in this rapidly changing context there will continue to be many unknowns. They will do their best to advise and support you. You'll receive a message from OPAL shortly providing more details.

We know that many of you are asking to know what the College will do as soon as possible so that you can plan accordingly. We also hear the positions many of you and your family members have expressed about what the College should or shouldn't do - from closing down immediately to remaining open normally for spring. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and feel free to continue to do so through the Dean of the College email account as this unfolds. No matter where you stand, however, please know that the College remains focused on the health & safety of our community.

We are all in this together.

As always, deans and the counseling staff are standing by to provide support during this challenging time.

I will be back in touch as we have more to share.

Sincerely,

Kathryn Lively Dean of the College
