The Office of Community Life and Inclusivity includes the Native American Program and the Office of Pluralism and Leadership.
Mission
With a student-centered approach, we strive to eliminate bias and remove barriers that impede the success of historically and presently marginalized and underrepresented populations. We provide advocacy, outreach, mentoring and educational opportunities that advance diversity, equity and inclusion. We both provide and connect students to resources and promote an institutional culture that cultivates a sense of belonging for all members. In doing so, we prepare our students to be leaders and global citizens.
The Native American Program
The Native American Program supports the well-being and success of native and Indigenous students at Dartmouth through programming and initiatives dedicated to four main pillars: Academic Support, Well-Being, Community Engagement, and Personal and Leadership Development.
The Office of Pluralism and Leadership (OPAL)
The Office of Pluralism and Leadership fosters a Dartmouth where all students can thrive, value difference, and contribute to a socially just world. We do this by providing student and organization advising, community building programs, leadership development programs, and institutional advocacy. This academic year, OPAL will focus on the following four areas, which we have identified as immediate needs for OPAL's work and the student community.
Dr. La-Tarri Canty joined the college in September 2022 as associate dean of community life and inclusivity. She oversees the Office of Pluralism and Leadership, the Native American Program, and the William Jewett Tucker Center for Spiritual and Ethical Life. In addition, she leads diversity, equity, and inclusivity professional development initiatives within the Office of Student Affairs.
Adria Brown is the director of the Native American Program. She provides direction, leadership, and consultation in the educational, social, cultural, and personal development of Native and Indigenous students at Dartmouth through student advising and mentoring, community engagement and collaboration, and budget administration. She celebrates Native student and community achievement through the facilitation of the coordination of the student-run annual Dartmouth Powwow, graduation events, internships, and first year student orientation programs. She serves as program advisor for the Native American House residential affinity house. Adria joins us from the Saint Louis Art Museum. Adria earned a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College in Native American Studies and Art History and a Master of Social Work from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. Raised in St. Louis, Missouri, she is an enrolled citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. Learn more about the Native American Program team.
Dr. Rachele Hall (she, her, hers) is the senior assistant dean and director of the Office of Pluralism and Leadership. Rachele works closely with the associate dean of community life and inclusivity in identifying and addressing student and community needs, serving as a divisional resource on issues of campus climate and diversity, and partnering with Institutional Diversity and Equity and campus colleagues. She contributes to the Dartmouth community by building effective partnerships across campus to mobilize the community in efforts to enhance cultural competence and inclusion. She collaborates with the campus, local, regional, and national networks in identifying emerging trends, adapting best practices, and delivering effective diversity, inclusion, cultural competence, and social justice programs. Rachele joined Dartmouth from SUNY Westchester where she served as interim dean of student life. Learn more about the OPAL team.
Dayrene Pittelli joined Dartmouth in October 2022 as the administrative assistant to the associate dean of community life and inclusivity. She manages scheduling, critical office functions, and the organization's daily operations. Dayrene earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology, from Florida International University.
