Statement of Support for Transgender Members of the Dartmouth Community

Inclusivity, diversity, access, and equality are core values at Dartmouth. Everyone should be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of sex, gender identity, or expression. As an institution, our goal is for every person to feel valued and included everywhere on campus. Our engagement with the full human diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences is critical to the strength of our community and the effectiveness of our learning and leadership.

At Dartmouth, everyone is welcome to use bathrooms and changing rooms that best align with their gender identity. All services, accommodations, housing, and programs for transgender students and employees remain in place, including health care coverage, gender-inclusive facilities, the option to change their name and gender marker, and the College’s alignment with the NCAA transgender student-athlete inclusion policy.  

The Dartmouth Office of Pluralism and Leadership serves as a clearinghouse for resources available to undergraduate transgender students and their allies. A map of gender-inclusive restrooms, showers, and changing facilities on campus is available online. Dartmouth’s nondiscrimination policy can be found on the College website.

Recent events have generated heightened concern among the LGBTQIA+ members of our community with respect to safety, acknowledgement, and acceptance.
