Letter from the Dean June 2018

Dear Families,

This is a time of many new beginnings. Congratulations to all who participated in Commencement festivities last weekend. Our faculty and staff come to know your students well during their time here. We share in the pride and joy you feel as your graduates cross the stage and look forward to all that lies ahead. As you’ll see from many of the featured stories this month, there were many reasons and ways to celebrate their accomplishments.

July 1 marks a new beginning for me and for the division of student affairs. I will be returning to teaching and scholarship in the Department of Spanish and Portugese, and Professor of Sociology and South House Professor Kathryn Lively will begin her one-year term as Interim Dean of the College. You’ll be hearing more from Dean Lively in this space over the summer as we prepare for the new academic year. For my part, I look forward to teaching many of your students in my literature courses and mentored research projects. It has been an honor to partner with our Student Affairs academic support services, residential life, student life, and health and wellness staff these past three years, and with you, to support your students’ success. I know Dean Lively looks forward to continuing that work in the year ahead.

With very best wishes to all,

Rebecca Biron
Dean of the College
