Letter from the Dean May 2019

Dear Families,

This will be my final message for this academic year. We are a little more than two weeks away from the last day of classes for spring term. Even as your students are working incredibly hard to complete their academic work, our end of year celebrations of their accomplishments are in high gear.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • On Sunday, we have the opportunity to view a unique Theater Honors Thesis performance - an original work inspired by the ecotheater movement at the College's Morton Farm.  https://theater.dartmouth.edu/news/honors-thesis-performance-spring-2019-water-horse

  • On Monday, the annual Celebration of Athletic Excellence will take place on Memorial Field.

  • On Tuesday, Michael Arad '91, designer of the National September 11 Memorial, will be the featured speaker at the Hopkins Center Arts Awards ceremony in Spaulding Auditorium.

  • On Wednesday, presentations and posters highlighting honors theses from across campus will be featured in Berry Library as part of the President's Honors Research Symposium.

  • Later next week, our annual Student Life Banquet will feature the accomplishments of students involved in Collis Student Center, Dartmouth Broadcasting, Forensic Union, Greek Life, Outdoor Programs, and Student Life activities.

These are just a few examples. Academic departments, centers and other campus programs are hosting a variety of related student presentations, recitals, receptions and events. Your students' achievements are also recognized in other, perhaps less visible ways, by faculty, staff and peers who see their efforts and know the hurdles they may have overcome this term and this year. We join you in taking great pride in applauding the achievements of every single one of your students.

Please do encourage your students to make full use of campus support resources as needed throughout the rest of the term. We wish them, and you, a wonderful summer.

With very best wishes,

Kathryn Lively
