It's with great sorrow that we write about the sad passing of our former DOSA colleague Liz Agosto '01, who died unexpectedly today. Liz was a passionate advocate for undergraduate students and an extraordinary colleague who is remembered fondly by all of those who had the privilege to know her.
Liz received her bachelor's degree in sociology from Dartmouth in 2001 and was inspired to give back to this institution. Six years after her graduation, she returned to Dartmouth as the program coordinator of student involvement, and was promoted to associate director of the Center for Student Involvement the following year. She served as special assistant to the dean of the college in 2011-12 and then senior associate dean of student affairs from 2013-2019.
Liz helped create the First Year Student Enrichment Program in 2009, which started as a program to connect student mentors with first-generation students and has grown and evolved to become a key program in New Student Orientation. A first-generation student, she described FYSEP as a resource that she wished she had as an undergraduate student. She also served on the Presidential Steering Committee for Sexual Misconduct and the Student Presidential Committee on Sexual Assault, whose focus on improving campus culture propelled the creation of the Sexual Violence Prevention Program. As an alumna, Liz served on the Alumni Council and created a positive bridge between Student Affairs and Alumni Relations.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Liz is remembered with great affection and fondness by colleagues across campus, by the students who recognized that she cared deeply about their well-being, and by us who were lucky to work alongside her. She was thoughtful, brilliant, and cared deeply about making a difference at Dartmouth.
Through her tenure, Liz mentored many teams and current leaders in Student Affairs. Her impact on our work, our relationships, and our love for Dartmouth endures to this day. We will keep you posted as we know more about opportunities for remembrance. We hope you take time to find comfort for yourself and with one other in community.
With heavy hearts,
Anne and Eric
