An Update on Housing Revitalization Work

As construction continues on Russo Hall, an apartment-style residence hall being built at 25 West Wheelock St., demolition of three other Dartmouth-owned buildings in the corridor will begin in early February.

The work is part of President Sian Leah Beilock's $500 million plan to revitalize undergraduate housing in the heart of campus and add a combined 1,000 beds for students, faculty, and staff over the next decade.

Dartmouth purchased the properties at 14, 41, and 43 West Wheelock St. in June 2024. The buildings at all three sites are being torn down.

At 14 West Wheelock St., Dartmouth will use the site in the near term to enable construction elsewhere on West Wheelock Street, and it will eventually be redeveloped for housing, according to Josh Keniston, senior vice president of capital planning and campus operations.

The buildings at 41 and 43 West Wheelock St. are past their useful life, and the land will initially be used to store and stage materials for the construction of Russo Hall. The site is entering the design process now for a housing development in the coming year.
