Policy Statement

Personal Property

Dartmouth College is not responsible for the loss or damage of students' personal property, including, but not limited to, property stored in lockers, student rooms or other residential areas, classrooms or any storage spaces. Students use these spaces at their own risk. Students may have coverage available to them through their family's insurance program, or may elect to purchase their own personal insurance.

Any theft or vandalism should be reported to ORL Housing Office and to Safety and Security at 6-4000.

Automobile Liability

In order to be eligible to drive College-owned or leased vehicles, students must qualify for approved driver status.

Students on the approved drivers list, while operating a College vehicle and while on sanctioned College business, are insured through the College's auto liability insurance. The use of personal vehicles for College business is discouraged. If personal vehicles are used for College business, the personal auto liability, comprehensive and collision insurance is always primary.

If an accident occurs while driving a College owned or leased vehicle, the student must report the event to the Office of Risk and Internal Controls Services (6-2442) within 24 hours, and complete a Vehicle Accident Form.

Foreign Travel

Dartmouth College has contracted for travel assistance and evacuation services from a company called International SOS (ISOS). ISOS's services range from pre-trip information and consultation on travel health and security concerns to emergency security and medical evaluation. The ISOS network of multilingual emergency assistance specialists operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year from ISOS Alarm Centers around the world. ISOS membership, provided by Dartmouth, is additional protection against unexpected difficulties that can arise when traveling away from home. It is designed to supplement the policies, procedures and support staff which the College already has in place as well as any personal international insurance. International SOS is not international health insurance. Some of its services require additional charges. Should a service be activated which has an additional charge, it is understood that Dartmouth College is authorized to bill the student for this charge upon receipt of the actual amount by ISOS. Learn more about ISOS at the Dartmouth Travel Assistance Program.
