2024 Community Life and Inclusivity Awards

The inaugural CLAI Awards dinner and presentation took place on May 21, 2024 and honored 14 recipients in 7 awards categories focused on community-building.

Program/Event of the Year

Al Nur, Ramadan Iftars

For a program that created substantial and unique opportunities for community building.

Al-Nur hosted dozens of iftars throughout Ramadan that welcomed and collaborated with Muslim community members on and off campus, as well as many other campus partners.

 

Creative Heart

Jaime Aranzabal, House Mother

For a student who thinks creatively to address gaps in services and community.

Jaime created and mothered House of Lewan, Dartmouth's first college-recognized drag group, and has exercised drag as a creative political outlet.

 

Champion of Change

Anthony Fosu, Scholar Leader

For a student who is an agent of change promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging work across campus.

Anthony's work spans countless student groups,committees, and initiatives. His work centers equity, justice, and Black joy in academics, politics, and Christianity.

 

Great Initiative

Roan Wade, Mutual Aid Organizer

For a student who doesn't shy away from the responsibility of leadership, but jumps in with purpose to make an impact.

Roan's work, from labor organizing to liberation education to starting the Free Market and other mutual aid efforts, has had an indelible effect on this campus.

For a student who doesn't shy away from the responsibility of leadership, but jumps in with purpose to make an impact.

From Ivy Native Council conference organizing to Powwow committee and more, Perciliana is active and indispensable in the Native and Indigenous community on campus.

 

Collaborative Spirit

Collis After-Dark, Cross-Campus Collabs

For a program that involved multiple organizations or partners working together for a shared purpose.

This group made a point to take late-night programming and make it inclusive and responsive to history heritage celebrations throughout the year by partnering with student groups and campus offices. 

 

Resilience and Growth

Jackelinne Claros-Benitez, First-generation low-income Advocate

For a student who has experienced challenges and worked through them with grit and grace, growing in power.

Jackie's work has so often been focused outward, on the success of other first generation, low-income students, but she has also overcome incredible challenges to position herself to do that work.

Isaiah Golonka, Embodying Growth

For a student who has experienced challenges and worked through them with grit and grace, growing in power.

Isaiah is known for showing up for his communities, but also for learning through his work and actively applying the lessons he's learned.

 

Inclusive Excellence

David Pack, Staff Changemaker

For a faculty or staff member that consistently advocates for and prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

David has been a leader and collaborator in this work across the Division of Student Affairs for years, particularly as he now co-chairs the DEIB workgroup.

 

Special Shout-Out

Vachon Raye, Student Committee Member

This winter and spring term, Vachon volunteered his time to make the first-ever CLAI awards happen. He even played a part in making the graphics presentation. Big shout-out to Vachon, we will miss you!
